Ye Olde EnglishFrom category: Dialects Ye Olde English is basically a mimicry of the style of, well, Olde English, from the Middle Ages, as you might find in the works of Chaucer (e.g. The Canterbury Tales, and not from the movie "A Knight's Tale") The dialect is a massive set of search/replace functions, which serve to replace common word fragments with those of 'old' English, effectively reversing some of the evolution of the language. I have tried to keep the rules consistent with the forms found in reference texts however the usage of language and spellings varies even within a single page - for example one of the source texts was "Le Mort D'Arthur" (The Death of [King] Arthur), and although there are links below to the electronic text versions, I have a paper copy which is based on earlier manuscripts, featuring more archaic language). It is possible to translate a few words/phrases, and whole webpages, using this voice. Please see the main page to use these features. Related links |
